The environment is an issue that effects both human and non-human animals. Climate change is an issue facing us all and the worst effects will hit the most vulnerable first, the worlds poorest people and non-human animals worldwide will be in the front lines.
One important part of the challenge is our diets. Animal agriculture causes more greenhouse gases than cars and trucks – in fact the whole of transport combined according to the UN.
According to the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations animal agriculture creates 65 percent of human-related nitrous oxide with a massive 296 times the Global warming Potential of CO2! Read the UN page here.
This is where the animal rights movement can play a key role in promoting a plant-based diet as one part of the solution to the global threat of climate change.
Whether it be walking, using public transport, using energy efficient light bulbs, freeganism, free-cycling, skipping, or taking action such as attending Climate Camp there is lots that can be done to cut your carbon footprint.
